I just got laid off and am a bit rusty on interviewing. I normally don't get tongue tied but I do sweat like mad. What should I do about the sweaty palm shake. I know it sounds dumb but I don't want to gross out anyone.

Leave your hands open on your lap and a little spread apart while talking. It helps in two ways:
1) Your clothing will absorb some of your sweat while the spread apart fingers will give some air flow. Plus as you are standing up for the good bye shake you can covertly wipe your hands on your clothing. Do that very discreetly in one solid motion while you are getting up. 2)Keeping hands in lap also keeps you from talking with your hands which can be very distracting to the employer and look very unprofessional. Happy hunting

I'm get a little nervous and damp in the interview too.
I think everyone does. This usually happens to me on hot summer days. One thing I found is that if I sit near an air conditioner while waiting to go in, or even go to the bathroom and dry my hands it keeps the "clammy hand shake" to a minimum. I think for some people, they just overcome and reduce the nervousness. Then... this is less of a problem. |
